Julia Walter

Social Worker/Therapist

There are moments in our lives where we feel stuck. There are also moments of crisis where we have done things that we don't feel ok about, or we may be living with persistent fears, thoughts, and behaviours that frighten us.  We may experience difficulties in our relationships or trouble managing the world. We may find suffering from current experiences of harm and violence, the wounds from our past, or repeating patterns and behaviors that no longer serve us.

In these moments, it’s important to have a space to process our fears, our pain, and our hopes. Therapy can help to ease the suffering you may be carrying and provide you with skills and practices to move closer to your vision for yourself. It can also be a place where we talk about things that we don't feel safe sharing with others.  Whether it's your first time looking for a therapist, or you worked with another therapist in the past, it is a process to find the right connection to support your needs and journey. I am here to connect and talk together to see if this connection feels like a good fit for the experience you are hoping to have.

About Me

I am glad that you are here and want to share a bit about myself. I have worked as a therapist and Social Worker in various community and hospital settings for nearly two decades. In these settings, I have primarily worked with people surviving acute trauma and/or living with the ongoing impacts of interpersonal or systemic violence. I also have experience in social movement building, particularly in the areas of harm reduction, anti-colonial and anti-racist solidarity, and alternative mental health.

I am fiercely hopeful, committed to practices of love and justice, and aspire to embody compassion in all my interactions.

About Me
My Approach

My Approach

I am trained and practiced in trauma-focused, somatic, mindfulness, narrative, and cognitive modalities. That said, I think of therapy as a collaborative process, and I often work between different modalities to ensure that the work meets the needs of the person.

I am warm, interactive, and creative in my approach. I support you to explore and connect to your strengths, stuck points and needs by listening deeply and offering tools from a variety of different paradigms. Together, we create a path and process of exploring and extending care and compassion to the experiences and hurts that you're facing. I draw on a variety of approaches that take shape through listening deeply, hearing your story, and the pivotal moments that shaped you along the way. It is also about hearing about your hopes and your vision for yourself, and what sustains and supports you. Creativity is an aspect of these discussions and I am well-versed in community resources in Toronto.

I welcome working with individuals from all backgrounds and experiences. I have worked extensively with people who have faced traumatic experiences, ranging from childhood abuse to interpersonal, intimate, and structural violence as well as experiences of depression, anxiety, substance use, self-harm, and relationship patterns.
